Plan the wiring around each controlled door
Chicago Datacom provides access control cabling and installation support for offices, tenant suites, warehouses and commercial facilities in Chicago and the western suburbs. We coordinate the field wiring with the selected readers, controllers, door hardware and power requirements.
Each door can have a different scope. An equipment list and door schedule help establish which devices are required, where the controller will be located and how the cable will reach the opening. Existing doors and finished spaces also need an access and pathway review.
Access control infrastructure scope
- Credential-reader and controller cabling.
- Door position sensor and request-to-exit device wiring.
- Specified low-voltage lock and power-supply connections.
- Cable routes between doors, controller locations and the network.
- Labeled terminations and door-by-door identification.
- Coordination with the access control provider, door hardware contractor and IT team.
Controller network connections can be included with Cat6/Cat6A installation. For a tenant build-out with several systems, review the complete commercial cabling scope before work begins.
Define the handoff between trades
The wiring scope should follow the approved system design and device requirements. Confirm who supplies and installs door hardware, who manages any required system interfaces and who performs programming and final functional checks.
Cabling support does not automatically include door modification, credential administration or a complete turnkey access control system. The written quote identifies Chicago Datacom's responsibilities and the work coordinated with other providers.
Prepare a useful access control quote request
Send the number of doors, device list, floor plan and photos of the openings and controller location. Include any existing wiring records, the hardware provider's requirements and the project schedule.
Closeout can include labeled cable ends, door and controller connection records, photos and agreed test documentation. Establish those deliverables before installation so the system provider has what is needed for commissioning and future maintenance.

Yes. We can coordinate cabling and installation support using the device list, wiring requirements and handoff plan from your vendor. Responsibilities are agreed before work starts.
What information is needed for each door?
A door identifier, location, reader and hardware models, required sensors and exit devices, controller location and available pathways are useful. Photos help identify access and routing constraints.
Does this include locks and system programming?
Only the work specifically listed in the quote is included. Door hardware installation, system programming and final commissioning may be handled by your selected providers.
Can you support an occupied commercial property?
Yes. Access, security requirements and any interruption to the existing system need to be planned with the property team and system provider before work begins.
